$79 Rates at Palms + $50 Dining Credit

$79 Rates at Palms + $50 Dining Credit

Deal Summary

The Palms is offering a deal with rates starting at $79 a night with a $50 dining credit.  The dining credit can be used at any restaurant except for Alize and the Eatery.  Overall I think $79 is almost $20 more than the cheapest I have ever seen for one night at the palms but because they are offering the $50 dining credit it is worth it as long as you use it.  For more information about the restaurants at the Palms click here.

Rake Free Poker at The Venetian

Rake Free Poker at The Venetian

On my trip to Vegas this past weekend I was able to check out The Venetian’s new poker room.  It is as big as advertised, but pretty empty.  There were maybe 10 tables running, but to be fair all of the poker rooms were pretty dead this trip.  I found some action at a 1 2 NL table, but everyone was pretty tight.  I was able to get 4 drinks  in about 2 hours of play so I would say the service was a little slow.

The best part about the poker room is its “happy hour” times Sunday through Thursday 10-11 AM and 5-6 PM.  For these two hours the play is rake free.  This basically increases your winning pot by about $5 (at the cheap tables).  Considering how  many hands you might win that isn’t a lot of money but at least it is a little extra dough going your way.  For their latest promotions check out their website.

Save 30% at Luxor

Save 30% at Luxor

Deal Summary

Orbitz is having an “Insider Steal” deal that gets you 30% off.  That starts rates out at $28.57 a night.  I checked some Sunday through Wednesday rates for two weeks in November(starting 18th and 25th) and all of the nights were $28.57.  It is really annoying to search on their website because there is no calendar rate search.   Overall this is a pretty good deal and I would say this is pretty close to the cheapest Luxor ever gets.

Booking Details

Use this link to Save 30% at Luxor Hotel.  This will take you directly to Orbitz’s website.  From there click the pink “Choose Dates” button to pick your days.  The cheapest rates are Sunday through Thursday.  You will know that the dates are acceptable for the promotion because after you search specific dates the discount will reflect in the order summary on the right hand side by saying “Sale – 30% ” in green.  To restart your search it is just easier to use the link on this page because if you click “go back to search” results all hotels show up and I do not think the deal applies.

Review of myVEGAS

Review of myVEGAS

I know you are wondering why I am writing about a Facebook game; you can earn/win absolutely Free stays at MGM Resorts hotels!

myVEGAS is a Facebook game created by Play Studios, but sponsored by MGM Resorts. Basically you play slot machines, with interesting bonuses, in order to build the Las Vegas Strip. The Strip only has MGM Resorts hotels, and everyone builds the hotels in the same order, but it is still fun. Plus you can earn/win free night stays at MGM hotels.

When you first start out in myVEGAS, things are super fun. You can only play the Excalibur game, but it is interesting. There are two user choice bonuses and a free spin bonus once you get 7 princesses. As you play you earn Loyalty points, which are the most important because they are what you cash in for free hotel stays.

Once you run out of chips, you can go to your Strip and collect chips. Hotels earn coins after a certain number of hours, the better the hotel, the more coins in general. However Play Studios either is not very familiar with the Strip or made a decision to make the order of the hotels make a little more sense because you build Bellagio before Luxor and MGM Grand is the last hotel you build. All MGM owned resorts are on the West side of the Strip except MGM and Circus Circus, so it is difficult to make everything 100% correct.

To build hotels you collect myVEGAS “V” symbols. Once you collect enough you build a piece of the hotel and once you have all the pieces built the hotel goes up and you can start collecting chips. Each game has its own charm. After playing them all for a long time, I find the most efficient one is Lucky Birds. By efficient I mean there is only one triggered event that requires user interaction, so you can let it auto spin once you hit a sufficient level. This lets you earn Loyalty points while being able to multitask.

My only real problem with the game is that the chips you win do not seem to be consistent. For example I’ll choose the knight bonus correct once and get 10 times my bet and choose it correct again and only get 2 times. Or maybe I’ll hit 5 birds in a row, and then some get replaced with wilds and I win less chips. That makes no sense.

The best part about the game is that your loyalty points earn you free stays in Vegas or other items. I have been playing since August 5th every day and I only have 45,000 points. This is enough to get me a free night at Excalibur or Luxor. What I am really going for is the 1 million point prize, which will allow you to choose a Bellagio fountain song. This particular item is a Mlife moment, which requires lots of dollars spent in the casino. Only the biggest whales can get this and they are willing to cough it up for someone for free. You could potentially buy this item buy purchasing chips for $9,950 but I am willing to stick it out. The longer you play the longer it takes to earn Loyalty points so at my current rate it will take me 38 more months. By the time that comes around the game company will probably be out of business or MGM may take the prize down. Hopefully they read this and realize how ridiculous the points get after the first few hotels.

If you like Facebook games, this game is for you because you can at least earn one free night at Luxor.

Coco Replaces Holly Madison in Peepshow

In case you have not been paying attention to Peepshow news.  Holly Madison, the star, is 4 months pregnant.  She was originally planning on stepping down in December, but the show executives made the decision to ask her to stop performing in October.  I personally think Holly is what made the show.  Her face is all over the Las Vegas Strip and at least people knew who she was.  Before she came along, the show wasn’t doing that great, so all the credit goes to her for making it famous.

Today, they just announced Coco will be her replacement.  I have never heard of her, but apparently she is Ice-T’s wife and was a Playboy model.  I saw some recent pictures of her and I’m would not say she is quite the same caliber as Holly Madison.  That aside, I’m not sure if she is a good choice anyway considering the other people they were considering.  Supposedly they wanted Carmen Electra to replace her, which would have been a great choice considering more people know who she is.  If I were to guess, this will be the beginning of the end for Peepshow.  Despite Planet Hollywood’s popularity, the things there tend to have bad luck.  For example, Prive, the club before Gallery closed because of illegal activities.  Koi lounge is always passing out free passes even to guys, so they must not be doing that great either.  Considering the number of quality shows in Vegas, hopefully Peepshow keeps running strong… or is at least replaced with a good one.

$35 Per Night at Monte Carlo

$35 Per Night at Monte Carlo

Deal Summary

Monte Carlo has a deal with some of the cheapest rates I have seen all year for the months November through February.  The idea is that you can choose your own rates, refundable or not.  For the most part, when you book a Vegas hotel you can cancel with a full refund as long as it is more than 48 hours in advance.  MGM Resorts as a whole must get hundreds of cancels a day and this is an interesting way to lock in their numbers.  This deal is for you if you know you are going to Vegas and have no chance of cancelling.  If you do cancel you will not get your money back.
Booking Details

Use this link, which will take you directly to Monte Carlo’s website.  From there you can choose your days or click the calendar to see the rates for the whole month. Almost all of December is super cheap, so if you are going to Vegas this winter check this out.

How to Win the Most Money Gambling

How to Win the Most Money Gambling

So you want to win money gambling?  The one rule of gambling is if you stay long enough you are guaranteed to lose, unless it is a skill game like Poker.  However that does not mean you cannot win and you do not always need to drop a ton of money.  On this page we’ll go over my favorite ways to gamble economically.  This will allow you to stretch your gambling money, and will give you the best chances to win.  Remember to always set a limit of what you can lose!

Best Odds

Poker

If you know how to play poker, then playing poker is a great bet because you aren’t against the house.  This means that you don’t have the odds stacked against you to begin with.  Almost every casino on the Strip has a poker room and you can find the best action at MGM, Aria, Caesar’s Palace, Bellagio, and Venetian.  If you prefer a more private atmosphere with less tables, play at Treasure Island, Mirage, or Monte Carlo.

If you are looking for a good poker book, take a look at Phil Hellmuth’s website. Phil has won the most number of WSOP championships with 11 WSOP bracelets and cashed in the WSOP 68 times (41 being final table appearances). He has a great book, offers training camps from time-to-time, and has a poker store you can check out at his site.

If you want to learn how to play poker I would suggest learning at Deuces Cracked or CardRunners. Both poker training websites that provide videos and commentary to make your poker game better. These sites are great because you can try out their videos for 7 days, if you like them then you can sign up, otherwise feel free to try other poker training websites. The sites also feature an active community where you can post questions and topics in their forums. Overall it is a great way to learn how to play poker.

Blackjack

If you play blackjack, optimally you have a 49% chance of winning.  That makes it one of the best games to play if you want to stretch your gambling dollar.  You win most of your money in blackjack by splitting and doubling down at the proper times so make sure you learn the best strategy.  One common betting strategy is to double your bet when you lose, which allows you to always win your minimum bet back.  I would not suggest this strategy for blackjack because it limits the amount of hands you can play and you can win more money when the odds are in your favor by splitting and doubling down, which allows you to double your bet.

Craps

The basic bet in craps is the pass line, and the house has a 1.41% advantage, so this game is also a decent bet.  The don’t-pass line is also an ok bet but you are betting against the other players so I would suggest betting the pass line.  The shooter can roll many times before your bet is won or lost so doubling your bet when losing is ok as long as you don’t mind playing for less time if you lose.

Roulette

Betting colors on the roulette wheel is also a good bet to spend your money on.  The bet is close to 50/50 and you can normally find tables with a $10 minimum, which will stretch your gambling dollar.  If betting colors is too boring for you I have a fun betting system for the numbers.  Find a $10 table and ask for $1 chips. There are 6 black numbers and 6 red numbers per third of the table.  Pick a third, a color, and put $2 on each number.  This has you putting $12 per spin down.  Unfortunately there are 38 numbers so you still need to get lucky.  If you don’t win after 6 spins you aren’t lucky enough to break even so sitting down with $72 at a time will be sufficient.

Slot Machines

In general I wouldn’t suggest slot machines, but if I were to pick the best ones for your money I would pick Hot Hot Super Jackpot.  The best way to play slot machines is by maxing out your lines and bets, which will in turn pay out the highest jackpot.  However, I think playing the bonus option for this game is the best way to gamble for a long period of time.  The bonus option is played by pushing the large red button on the right side and it plays 30 credits.  The best part is if you hit 3 bonuses you can get 15 free spins and watch the machine play for you.  $20 can go a long way on this machine so if you feel like gambling for a while without dropping a lot of money this is the machine to find.  Even the Wynn has 6 of these machines, so almost every casino on the strip will have them as well.

Now that you know how to spend your money gambling checkout the best places to find cheap Alcohol.

Best Ways to Use Concierge

Best Ways to Use Concierge

Almost every hotel has a concierge desk and most people will never know the best way to use it. The truth is, even I may never know concierge’s full potential. It all depends on the employee working of course, but there are a lot of uses of concierge that everyone can take advantage of.

My last trip I had tickets to see Love at the Mirage. I was staying at Vdara and called down to ask about Elvis tickets for some friends because they did not have a show for that night. I found out that concierge at Vdara, and I am assuming Aria, will give you 30% off normal rates to Viva Elvis.  When Elvis is replace by Zarkana I’m sure they will have deals for that too.

Even better, I found out they can print your show tickets at the concierge desk. Of course this only applies to shows at MGM owned resorts, but stopping downstairs to get my show tickets printed is far better than going to the nearest box office. I knew any Cirque Du Soleil box office would print any Cirque show’s tickets, but this is far better. Any Cirque ticket line involves a wait of at least 15 minutes. My longest wait was at New York – New York for about 45 minutes, which is torture considering there are a million other things I would rather be doing.

On top of the lesser wait, and the convenience of not having to visit another resort, concierge is open earlier than the box office. In general the later it gets the longer you will wait in line in Vegas. Going to concierge at 9 AM will almost for sure be a lesser wait than going at 5 PM. They only hitch of printing my show tickets was that my seats weren’t assigned. The employee made a quick call to ticket reservations, assigned the seats, and printed the tickets.

Another great use of concierge is getting on the guest list to clubs. This depends a lot on the ability of the employee, but at the very least they may be able to provide your number to a club promoter. Guest list doesn’t always guarantee free admission, or even admission, especially for guys, but it can help. If you are staying at Wynn or Encore stop by the concierge desk for free passes to their nightclub.

Then you have normal uses for the concierge desk. You can book show tickets, make restaurant reservations, or setup time at the spa. You probably won’t save any money doing this, but they can probably save you time and give you opinions of their first-hand experience.
